Although the transport and logistics industry has made great progress over the years, we recognise that our workplace still involves some high-risk activities. Our aim is to manage these effectively so that we can better protect our staff from risks.
Many of our existing and potential customers are becoming increasingly conscientious when choosing a transport provider who can demonstrate an effective Health & Safety plan.
A safe working environment is a productive environment which enables us to maximise efficiency. This way, day-to-day costs are minimised in order to sustain a competitive stance in our local marketplace. Various health & safety schemes have been regularly implemented across the years to ensure all Welch Group employees and the general public are kept as safe as possible.
As part of the Safe Urban Driver Scheme (SUDS), our drivers took part in a day’s training, with fully qualified professional instructors, to better understand the potential perils that cyclists face on the road. A morning was spent on theory based work before an afternoon on difficult roads left our drivers knowing exactly how best to protect vulnerable pedestrians and road users.
As part of our determination to avoid complacency, we have recently employed the experienced services of Hosking Associates to carry out a Health & Safety audit. In May 2016, Hosking Associates created a prioritised action plan and provided IOSH-certified training to Tony and Chris Welch, our Driver Training Officer and all members of the senior management team.
Through ongoing investment in Health & Safety, we are continually evolving. By engaging with all staff in assessing risk and feeding the results back into the plan, we can develop a safer business with safer staff. This allows us to deliver a safer service to all of our customers.
