Why you should hire a semi-low loader to transport your goods

Added 15.12.2020

Semi-low loaders are being used increasingly across the UK for the transportation of a wide variety of goods. At Welch, our variety of step frame and low loaders offer many advantages when it comes to moving your heavy loads across the country. When lifting and moving goods, key considerations of flexibility, safety and durability are paramount. Below, we have outlined some of the perks of using this increasingly popular equipment.

What is semi-low loader?

A semi-loader trailer is a trailer without a front axle. It is used for the transportation of goods which may require some extra length or height. Semi-loaders are hugely popular for the transportation of a variety of goods from farming machines to lifting vehicles. Low-loaders are also particularly useful for the transportation of particularly long and bulky goods. These loads need careful consideration, and there are factors you should take into consideration before transporting them. The special features of low-loader trailers mean they comply with a variety of specialist transportation needs, and they are growing ever popular within today’s industry.

Adjustable height

Low-loaders have adjustable height settings, which is a huge benefit when it comes to loading large and heavy cargo. A huge advantage of these loaders is that they can bear loads up to 3.6m, which is more than normal trailers can legally take. Low-loaders are significantly shorter in height than conventional trailers. With a low height, it is easier to load goods onto this equipment. Due to their height, low loaders are an ideal option for transporting a variety of abnormal loads that cannot be split into separate loads.

Flexibility

Low-loader trailers can be easily connected and disconnected from its unit. This makes them easy to manoeuvre on loading sites. Semi-low loaders also offer flexibility in strong weather conditions. Due to their height, low-loaders can be less affected by strong weather conditions; for example, strong winds against the side of your load. At Welch, we also provide semi-low trailers with beaver tails. These prove particularly efficient when it comes to loading your cargo. Goods can be driven directly onto the trailer, saving you time and money trying to lift goods onto a higher platform. Some low-loaders can also be extended in length, increasing their flexibility even further.

Increased safety

Low-loaders are popular in choice due to their durability and strength. Their low height makes loading and carrying abnormal loads easier, which in turn guarantees a safer process. Low-loaders make the loading process easier, which reduces the need for manual labour. With their low height and weight-bearing properties, low-loaders take the train out of the loading and transporting process, making it safer for your workers.

At Welch, we are here to help when it comes to advising the type of low loader needed for the transporting loads. To discuss your haulage needs and find the right semi-low loader for you, get in touch today.
